Off-Camera Flash 101

Today I spent some time experimenting with using off-camera flash to light objects. I'm trying to learn how to light from different angles and use reflective cards to limit shadows and highlights. Here are a few I thought worthy of posting.

A carved turtle:

And the setup; I fired the strobe into the white card so the turtle would be lit from camera left.

This is a detail shot of an album liner. I angled the flash low to show the texture of the paper.


It took forever to get that quarter to stand up.
