Switching to WordPress

I have switched my blog host from Blogspot to WordPress, so if you have this blog bookmarked please change it to karimaloneyphoto.wordpress.com. I like Blogspot, but after researching WordPress I found that it would give me better features and I can display photos at larger sizes, very important! So sorry for the change, but I think you’ll enjoy this blog better. I’ve been pretty busy with photography and design lately, which is a great thing, but that means I’ve gotten behind on my blog. I’ll try to be better!

Thanks for reading!

The Kentucky State Fair

Last week my mom and I took an adventure to Louisville to see the Kentucky State Fair. Mind you I have lived here all my life and this was my first trip to the fair. It was different than I expected...the trip was full of over-priced fast food, booths representing nearly every Kentucky county (and did you know Kentucky has more counties than any state? phew), tropical fish, Christmas trees (in August), craft booths and horse gear booths, and more cows, goats, rabbits and fowl than you can imagine, even if you are from the Bluegrass State. All under one pretty large roof. We didn't make it to the rides. They actually have a photo contest and now that I've scoped the competition I'd like to enter next year. Click on any of the pictures to view them at a larger size.

I took several goat pictures for my sister. Most of them wanted to eat my camera, so she should be appreciative.

Aforementioned cows...these are dairy cows and I got to see one milked. I think 6 gallons came out...!?!

A goat judging competion...I don't know how they judge goats but it's pretty fast. Each goat gets patted down, prances around showing off its fancy-dancy tail and then ribbons are handed out. No one gets too excited...if my goat got a blue ribbon I'd be yellin' boo-yah or something, but I guess that would be unsportsman like. These are pygmy goats, and my sister has been threatening to buy one for my mom. Don't ask.

A million rabbits. They were very quiet compared to the upcoming fowl.

No words can describe the cuteness of this photo.

This pigeon was proud of it's ribbon. I would be too.

This pigeon is a mystery.

The prettiest hen I've ever seen. It may be a rooster...I don't know. Wikipedia has failed me in a visual differentiation.

This photo rivals the bunny in cuteness. Nothin' like a pile of piglets stacked two high.

This is Kentucky, people.

Photo Shoot with Charles

I went out with my friend Charles on Saturday to take some more photos of him along with my husband, Steve. We did a fun shoot at the Arboretum (sadly they had moved the tree trunk from Jessi's shoot to an unusable location) and then went downtown for some night shots. I've posted several photos on here, enjoy! Thanks Charles!

A New Look!

So, I've freshened up my website yet again. I decided to go for a sleeker look that can show off my design skills in addition to my photography. I love dark colors but I think I went a little too dark initially and the white-orange combination should appeal more to my audience. I think the site is more inviting now. Too bad I just ordered 500 business cards...oh well, I still love the charcoal-blue and orange color palette. Hope you like the new look! Check out the site at www.karimaloneyphoto.com. If you're seeing some strange, out-of-place images or the site doesn't look like the screenshot above, try clearing your browser's cache and refreshing the page. (That's under Tools, Internet Options, and "delete browsing history" for you Internet Explorer users...who should switch to Chrome or Firefox, btw.) =)

Model Shoot with Jessi

Last night the rain subsided so I could take photos of Jessi, an aspiring model. My good friend Charles and I have teamed up to form E&L Productions and we're offering a photo session and creative direction package to anyone interested in getting into modeling or expanding their modeling portfolio. Thanks to Jessi for being an outstanding subject, I think she ended up with some really nice shots!

Red River Gorge

On the 4th of July Steve and I went to the Gorge on a mission: find the suspension bridge. I'd never seen it before. Lucky for us it wasn't a bad hike at all, and the weather was excellent for Kentucky in July; I think it was mid-60s and we missed the rain. I'd never seen Nada Tunnel before either, and that was pretty cool.

Do you think this rock looks like a smiling turtle face? I do!!
